Blog Week One
For Valentine's Day instead of getting flowers and chocolates, I received a FitBit. A FitBit is a watch that tracks the number of steps you take, your heartrate, miles you walk, calories you burn, and the stairs you walk up. It is said 10,000 steps a day is good for your heart which makes you less likely to have a heart attack. So each day I am given a goal to walk 10,000 steps or more.
My pre-Fitbit days used to go something like this, wake up half asleep while wondering when I can sleep again, also brushing my teeth. But now I wake up and think about what I can do so I can complete my 10,000 steps. Whether it is walking around brushing my teeth or taking my dogs on a walk.
My first day of my new goal was Valentine's Day. That morning my friend came to my house, half asleep but we planned the night before to go for a hike. We were both constantly yawning while walking. Instead of him being a motivator, only 200 steps in he persuaded me to allow us to turn around and go during a different time. I managed to get 8,000 steps by cleaning and going grocery shopping with my mom. However by 8 pm I noticed I was 2,000 steps behind. I got my dog Chowder on a leash and decided to walk her around the neighborhood. I would have walked my other dog as well, however he's a misanthropist dog, who tries to attack everyone. Strangely, he is also the biggest baby who tries to crawl onto your lap when you sit outside. At 10,000 steps I felt a vibration on my wrist which alarmed me for accomplishing my goal. I went to sleep having roughly 13,000 steps.
I have heard of a FitBit, but I never really actually knew what it was for. I think it's really cool that you are focused on your thousand steps and keeping tabs on your health. It would be really great for the future and it's really good in the present because your learning about keeping your goals. This simple goal seems to be teaching you a lot and keeping you occupied well, which shows how hard goals are to be accomplished and how rewarding it is in the end! Keep walking! (:
ReplyDeleteIt seems that even the smallest goal can have a drastic impact on the way we go about our lives. That all-encompassing motivation you described and the planning you put into your morning trips show just how important this activity is to you.
ReplyDeleteI admire your dedication to your fitness and that you respected the wishes of your friend while still accomplishing your objective. I enjoyed reading about the extra push you gave yourself to achieve ten-thousand steps; I could almost feel the satisfaction you incorporated into the last few sentences.
I hope that you retain your goal, that you work hard to keep your enthusiasm alive, and that you reap the rewards (the health benefits) of such a noble quest.
I so desperately want a Fitbit! I keep track of my steps on my iPhone and it just seems so much more convenient using a watch. They say if you run a mile everyday and drink at least half your weight in ounces of water everyday your set to live till your 105 (minus the fast food and candy)
ReplyDelete;) I have also started to set goals for myself everyday. I have learned to stop eating out so much, drink more water, and work out at least 4 days out of the week. I hope all goes well with your Fitbit!
Remember when I tried to swipe your Fitbit in calculus? That was hilarious and I was so embarrassed! Ten thousand steps a day is a good goal. I don't think I get ten thousand steps a day in. I don't think most people can even get at least eight thousand steps a day. A good way to start a new year is to be healthy. And I think this new Fitbit is putting you on track. I clearly see that it motivated you to take more steps before you went to sleep that day and that's good! You are on a road to a healthy life Peyton. This Fitbit is a good way to track your steps. I want one after you first showed it to me. I'm getting one!!! :)
